Garen Abel Unokan

A writer and director born and bred in South London, Garen Abel Unokan’s previous theatre credits include: Blend.Share.Mix (Theatre503); Glutathione (Young Vic) and Can I Touch Your Hair? (Vault Festival). 

In 2018, she was the Young Vic’s Boris Karloff Trainee Assistant Director, supported by the Boris Karloff Foundation on The Convert by Danai Gurira and directed by Ola Ince. Her writing has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker and Black Ballad, and she is currently working on her debut novel. As an artist, Garen is particularly interested in narratives surrounding queerness, blackness, coming of age, grief, and families - whatever shape they take.
