Jo Wheeler
Jo Wheeler has grown her social art practice over 25 years, working as a visual artist, producer, writer, mentor and evaluator - supporting people’s well-being and agency through creativity. Her work focuses on collaborations and co-productions with communities to explore place and our relationship to it.
Previous projects include, Arts Council England (ACE) Creative People and Places programmes; mini museums in bus shelters (South Holland) and a Valentine’s mass love busk (Mansfield). She has also worked as an ACE Arts and Quality Assessor and is lead artist on The National Forest’s Youth Landscapers Collective.
Before working as a freelance artists and producer, Jo was head of youth and community programming at Nottingham Contemporary (2008-10). Between 2004 - 07 Jo worked with Engage, the National Association of Gallery Education, supporting venues and a national campaign to develop youth-friendly policy, practice and spaces.
Jo is also an active studio member at Primary, Nottingham and a commissioned artist on their Making Place Programme. She also values her role as a Creative Mentor supporting young people in care through Derbyshire’s Virtual School.
