For two nights only Pentabus and Paines Plough present Signal Fires at Acton Scott Historic Working Farm. An evening of live play readings from the writers commissioned for Come to Where I Am: Rural.

The plays are written by Callum Beardmore, Natasha Marshall, Olivia Preye and Kat Woods*. Live music will be performed each evening by Bertie Playle and Olivia Preye.

Stories spanning across the UK from Devon to Fermanagh, all inspired by place and identity, you’ll encounter crop circles, teenage folly, slow punctures, grief and the healing power of nature, all brought to life by the writers themselves. Accompanied by live music, in the safe and beautiful surroundings of Acton Scott, come and re-ignite your love of performance.

This is part of the Signal Fires project which is a collective touring initiative that will see new work staged UK-wide throughout October and November. This project has been conceived to highlight the current crisis faced by the theatre industry and the freelancers that work within it. Over 40 of the UK’s top touring theatre companies are taking part at a time when traditional touring isn’t possible.

Capacity is strictly limited and all tickets must be bought online in advance.

*The line-up is subject to change.

Suitable for ages 14+ | Running time: 60mins approx.

Signal Fires

Keeping you Safe

We have fully risk assessed the event, and in the current situation we have put the following measures in place to help keep us all safe:

On arrival at Acton Scott Historic Working Farm you will park in the car park - open from 5.30pm.

Signal Fires takes place outdoors, in the field next to the car park. The entrance will be clearly marked and we will have our friendly team on hand to help and guide you to your pre-allocated viewing area.

Social distancing: Please make sure you keep at least 2m away from any audience members or staff who are not in your household or official support bubble. Please ensure you are not in groups of more than 6. It is important we maintain this distancing throughout the event and time at Acton Scott.

Audience Capacity: We have limited the audience capacity of the event in order to ensure social distancing is possible at all times (2m minimum).

Tickets: must be booked online in advance. You can book up to 6 tickets, to be used by you and people within your household and support bubble.  If coming with others from your household or official support bubble, you must book these tickets together in one transaction so we know the size of your group. We will not be selling tickets on the gate.

Viewing areas: We have created viewing areas where you are welcome to sit or stand with up to 6 people from your household or official support bubble. Viewing areas will be at least 2 metres from each other to ensure social distancing. You will be allocated a viewing area in advance based on the size of the group of tickets that you book online.

Seating: We ask that you bring your own camping chairs if you wish to have a seat for the show.

Face coverings: although we are outdoors, our team will all be wearing face coverings and if you feel safer wearing yours we encourage you to do so. We do ask that face coverings are worn when visiting the toilets.

Toilets: Acton Scott’s toilets will be open. The museum has put the following measures in place:

  • Increased cleaning
  • metre queuing system in place
  • Hand sanitiser available on entry to toilets.
  • Hand washing facilities including running water and liquid soap and suitable options for drying

Hand sanitiser: we will have hand sanitiser stations at the gates and toilets.

Contact tracing: we will use the contact details provided when you booked so that we can contact you if someone at the event later tests positive for Covid 19.

Please do not attend the event if you are exhibiting any of the following symptoms or you have been in contact with someone who has symptoms:

  • ·         A new continuous cough
  • ·         A high temperature
  • ·         A loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
